At the Cleveland Furniture Bank, which provides loose furniture to people in need, donations have been down for months, which worries Executive The man Tom Gaghan.
"We depend so much on people replacing their furniture or downsizing, and it just doesn't seem to be a lot of that prevailing on right now," Gaghan said. "I guess I can't blame anything but the economy. People still aren't skilled to sell or buy homes, so they don't have a lot to give away."
What bothers Gaghan most is that demand for worn items is climbing, even though furniture donations are at an all-time low. He's seen a 10-percent skip in the number of charitable organizations referring clients to receive open furniture.
