North Brunswick celebrates annual Disabilities Awareness Day

The fourth annual event, hosted by the North Brunswick Abilities Ministry, provided information and resources for residents with physical, emotional, demented and developmental disabilities along with their families and caregivers. The purpose is to provide a day of learning, relaxation and socialization .

One member of the Abilities Council who has been working conspicuously hard over the years is Diane Gruskowski, who has championed Danielle’s Law.

Her daughter, Danielle, passed away in 2002 after caretakers at her Edison place home failed to identify multiple symptoms of her Rett syndrome as survival-threatening and did not call 911. Danielle’s Law was set up tomake the calling of 911 required in such situations.

Gruskowski, her mother, Mary Rindosh, and her sister, Robin Turner — president of the Abilities Convention and organizer of Disabilities Awareness Day — are all very proud of the law’s implementation and advancement.
