Lyall considers that: 'When American journalists—with their on a trip-minded principles, their snooty self-regard, their First Amendment—confront Britons about the scarcity of seriousness in their papers, Britons generally counter with complaints about the paint-drying bristle with of the American press. Most British journalists would rather be locked in a broom closet with no nutriment than convey the appearance of taking their profession seriously—even when they do take it truly. And sometimes you start to see their point.’ [1]

Lyall also described her attendance at the British newspaper awards, and seemed to be surprised at the striving and animosity between the different journalists and organisations: ‘The British Hurry Awards have been called "the Academy Awards of British journalism," Britain's guarantee b make amends for to the Pulitzers. But last night's ceremony…was not a mutually obliging celebration of the British newspaper industry fuelled by camaraderie and bonhomie. It was more like a soccer match attended by a guild of misanthropic inebriates. The losers were not happy for the winners….The more often than not reign over seemed to be that you were allowed to cheer only for awards won by a) someone at your own paper; or b) someone at a paper owned by your landlord (e.g., Rupert Murdoch ). Otherwise, the etiquette was either to mutter disapprovingly or to flood out the winner's acceptance speech by chattering as raucously as practical.

On Friday, the Pentagon “asked” online whistleblowing facilitator WikiLeaks to “do the correct constituent” by erasing all classified U.S. guidance documents from its servers and handing over any copies. I put the “asked” in shock quotes because although that’s how CNN headlined it, the realistic horror story second-hand the far more correct “demanded.”

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell hinted at a pass over of threats which might be deployed versus WikiLeaks should his on request be rejected. “If doing the accurate aspect is not considerable enough for them,” he said, “then we will think out what other alternatives we have to compel them to do the sound possession.”
