I bought a large Amish natural wood clothes dryer rack. I have found that my clothes smell mildewey?

 I also noticed the wood looks dark in some places, by any means mold.? Was I suppose to treat wood, or alcohol to it before I use it? Anyway, what I do now? Should I paint, stains, ... etc.?
